Summer Time Heat

As the heat starts to rise over 100 degrees this summer we should all take a little time to check over our cars. No matter if it is new or used; we all should check these simple items to ensure the longevity of our vehicles. With the stress the heat puts on our cooling systems it takes only seconds to blow a motor. When your car, truck, van, or SUV is cooled off check your anti- freeze and other fluid levels. The bottle on your vehicle has marker to tell you if it is low or full. When adding anti-freeze, make sure you add the correct type or color. Orange Dex-cool and Green Radiator fluid do not mix well. There are some brands out there that a designed for both but read the fine print carefully. When purchasing your vehicle coolant look for the type that is pre mixed 50/50. Never fill your cooling system with tap water! Doing so will cause mineral deposits to form on the inside of your radiator and making it less efficient at cooling your car down. When you are checking your fluid level make sure the coolant is clean and doesn’t appear to have sludge or cloudiness to the fluid. If it does, you need a radiator flush which can be done at any local mechanic shop or quick lube oil station. While your there, have them change the oil also.
